Well, I’ve been wanting a drone, a flying camera, ever since the Death Valley trip. Yeah, I know we wouldn’t have been able to fly it there, but how awesome would it have been to fly it down Lippencott Road!!?!

Anyway, I scored a sweet deal on a used DJI Phantom 3 Pro on Craigslist with a GPC case in a 5.11 Tactical backpack. Flown it a couple of times, and yesterday, the weather looked good to get it aloft up in the hills above Carson City, NV. The spot is called Wasabi Boulders or Washoe Boulders and is accessed from Goni Road, which becomes Ophir Road. Just before the cinder mine, turn left and head up to the ridge and the boulders. There’s a lot of hard bouldering and a lot of easy scrambling.

It’s a beautiful spot between Carson City and Washoe Valley with views of Washoe Lake and the Carson Range from Mt. Rose to Job Peak and Freel Peak.

PRO TIP: There’s a dirt road that crosses over to Washoe, but the one right below Wasabi Boulders ISN’T IT. Tried that. It’s gated WAY WAY down. You have to make a sketchy u-turn and come all the way back.

Definitely a nice spot to visit! Let me know what you think of the drone footage. I don’t intent to rely too heavily on it, but I think it’ll be a nice accent for our videos.
