As part of my ongoing time lapse project, I shot some sequences at my ranch in southern Reno.

We used to live at Arlington and Saint Lawrence which is low orbit around downtown Reno. We moved south to an area of ranches and pastures which is not really that far away, but it’s sort of off the grid. The area is bounded on 3 sides by Virginia Street, Arrowcreek, and Caughlin Ranch and has ranches, cattle, farms and horses. We get water from the Steamboat ditch two days a week. We can hear cattle mooing from our porch and Coyotes and their psychotic yelping in our pasture.
I think of this area as a Lagrangian Point in the orbit of Reno neighborhoods. Around the orbits of two bodies in space, such as the earth and the moon, there are several Lagrangian Points where an object can be in stable orbit without moving. [Wikipedia]

The ranch neighborhood is just that. There are ranches and pastures that probably haven’t changed in 50 years. Though cyclists pass through in a constant stream, and drivers wind around occasionally stopping for an itinerant Peacock, the horses, caws, emus, llamas and donkeys just chill and much while the marmots scurry around doing whatever it is that marmots do.
At the end of this sequence you can see two planets rise just before the sun comes up and whites out the image. Those are Venus and Jupiter i think. I first noticed them lying in bed as our window faces south. It’s a pretty awesome thing to wake up to.
