Audri mentions her hypothesis, her prediction of the failure rate of her machine. The whole process of building and testing her machine is an experiment using The Scientific Method.
The Oxford English Dictionary says that scientific method is: “a method or procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.” [Wikipedia]
Simply, a hypothesis is an educated guess. In the PBS Kids TV show, Dinosaur Train, the characters define hypothesis as, ” an idea you can test.” That’s basically the main point of The Scientific Method, that of testing your expectations against reality.
